Respect is one of the first values many Thai children learn. It teaches awareness of others, good manners, and humility toward people with greater experience. But respect becomes limiting when a question is heard as disobedience.
I have learned that the ability to ask "why" does not have to weaken respect. A child can question an idea while still respecting the person who holds it.
This distinction will matter more in the AI era. Young people will grow up among systems that produce confident answers instantly. They will need the courage to examine those answers, notice the assumptions inside them, and judge when authority should be challenged.
That habit cannot begin only when they enter the workplace. It begins in relationships where curiosity is welcomed before the question has been perfectly formed.
The most enduring respect is not created by teaching children never to question us, but by showing them how to question without losing respect for others.
