What is convenient for the most senior person can create invisible work for everyone else. A late change of direction becomes someone's weekend. An unclear request creates several rounds of interpretation. A meeting moved at short notice disrupts schedules that appear less important only because they belong to people with less authority.
I have learned that hierarchy can hide where inconvenience finally lands. Technology has made it easier to send instructions instantly and revise work repeatedly. It has not removed the human cost of responding.
Before making a small request, it is worth asking how many people will need to rearrange their work around it.
Authority includes the right to change direction. Wisdom includes noticing the burden created each time that right is used casually.
The cost of a leader's convenience is often paid in the time of people who feel unable to make that cost visible.
