Short Short Reflection 43

Seniority Does Not Remove Vulnerability

Reflection 43 · On Career Risk

1-min read · Looking Inward

A higher position can create the impression of greater security. But seniority also brings higher cost, greater visibility, and closer connection to the organisation's strategic decisions.

I have learned that no title permanently protects a person from restructuring, changing priorities, or a business model that no longer requires the same role.

This should not create fear. It should create perspective.

The more responsibility we receive, the more important it becomes to maintain an identity and capability beyond the title. We should continue learning, strengthening relationships, and understanding where our experience may create value outside the current structure.

A role may be important. But it should never become the entire explanation of who we are.

The higher the title, the more important it becomes to remember that our identity must be larger than the position.
