Short Short Reflection 29

Do Not Outsource Your Inner Voice

Reflection 29 · On Self-Knowledge

1-min read · Looking Inward

Advice has never been more available. Experts, books, data, and intelligent systems can help us see alternatives we might otherwise miss. I value these perspectives.

But no external source lives with the consequences of our choices in exactly the way we do.

I have learned to listen widely without giving away the responsibility to decide. The most popular answer may not fit the life we are trying to build. The most logical path may conflict with something we understand but cannot yet fully explain.

The purpose of advice is to improve judgement — not replace it. We should use knowledge from the outside while remaining able to hear the quieter understanding within.

Seek perspectives from many places, but do not allow the loudest external answer to silence what you know about your own life.
