In recent years, we have seen remarkable progress in AI. New models become more capable, faster, and more accessible. Yet one observation continues to stand out: the organisations creating the greatest value are often not the ones with the most advanced AI models. They are the ones with the strongest operational data.
Operational data reflects how an organisation truly works — the decisions, processes, exceptions, outcomes, and countless interactions that shape daily operations. AI can recognise patterns. But only meaningful operational data provides the context behind those patterns. Technology will continue to evolve. Models will improve. Yet the quality of insights will always depend on the quality of the operational reality we choose to capture.
Perhaps the real competitive advantage in the AI era is not access to better AI. It is building an organisation that continuously creates better data. As AI becomes accessible to everyone, the sharper question is no longer “Which AI model should we use?”. It is: “What kind of operational data are we creating every day?”
AI can recognize patterns. But only operational data provides the context behind them.
